In March 2020 I was high-kicking and jazz-handsing my way across the stage in Guys and Dolls, the annual Lent term musical at the ADC Theatre. When the two-week run was cut short by the introduction of a national lockdown, we all believed that we were being sent home to quarantine for two weeks at most. It is surreal looking back now at our rushed goodbye hugs in a packed dressing room, as we’ve experienced 18 months of lockdowns and closed theatres.
I was fortunate enough to join the 2017 company of the National Youth Music Theatre (NYMT) to take part in a production of Sondheim & Lapine’s Sunday in the Park with George, directed by Hannah Chissick, which ran for six performances at The Other Palace in London’s West End and received five-star reviews.
In the four years I spent at Emmanuel, I was lucky enough to receive three grants to travel during the summer: once to Athens and the Peloponnese, then to Sicily, and finally to central and northern Greece.
