The Porters' Lodge is responsible for safety and security of the site. They also provide warm & friendly support and advice to the whole College community.
The Lodge is the first port of call on arrival at the College. It is located at the St Andrew's Street entrance (Cambrige CB2 3AP). The Porters' Team is led by the Head Porter, Steve 'Monty' Montgomery, and the Deputy Head Porter, Paul Bass. The Emma Porters are known to be some of the friendliest amongst the University community. Emmanuel is open 0900–1800 to the public, and the Porters are always ready to welcome students, guests, alumni & visitors. Our spectacular gardens are regularly visited, which adds to our sense of community within the wider city of Cambridge.
The Porters are part of our important pastoral support network within College, as well as dealing with the post & pigeonhole system and fire safety. The are also responsible for the security of the College & its members, providing our students with accommodation & public room keys and managing the College Residence Register, amongst many other roles. The Porters can orientate you in College, give practical help when needed and can give first aid to students. There is someone always available in the Lodge to help with all aspects of life at Emmanuel, and can help in any emergency, including out–of–hours.
The Lodge is staffed by at least one Porter, 24 hours every day. So if you need help or advice, then you are likely to find it here. There are usually two Day Porters available at the Lodge during the day, and Gate Porter(s) overnight. The Porters' Team will support and assist you throughout your time at Emma. They work alongside the Tutors and the wider Wellbeing Team to help you make the most of Emma!
Students are always welcome in the Lodge, which provides you with a safe & welcoming place to spend time in.
