Student Experience (internships, academic projects & extra-curricular)

Grants for extra-curricular activities, internships and other projects

We want all Emma students to flourish while here. And we want them to leave as well-rounded people, able to use what they’ve learned to benefit society and with useful skills for their own lives and careers. Donations help ensure that all students feel able to make the most of the broad and exciting range of opportunities on offer to them at Emma.

Your support helps us award grants to students for extra-curricular activities – from sports to the performing arts – as well as internships, research projects and voluntary roles with charities and NGOs. Donations have funded students to take on, for example: research on underwater engineering surveys; an eco-racing internship in Australia; and a research project to improve antenatal healthcare for pregnant women and girls on the Thai-Myanmar border. These are just a few examples of the ways donations enrich our students’ lives, and in doing so contribute to solving complex global problems.

Through consultations and surveys, we are discovering that there is a particular need to provide additional support for internships, to help students explore careers. Donations will help make this possible in the years to come.

The Emma Experience programme

Thanks to your donations, in 2023 we launched the Emma Experience programme. Its purpose is to equip every member of our community - Fellows, students, post-docs and staff - with the skills they need to flourish across four core areas: wellbeing, community, skills and careers. Our community now has access to inspiring talks and workshops, careers and mentoring sessions, skills-based courses, notices of competitions and funding opportunities, physical and mental wellbeing activities and much more. Your donations make it possible for a programme like this to exist and will help ensure its success and development. Visit Emma Experience to find out more.
