All you need to identify the college as a beneficiary is our formal name 'The Master, Fellows and Scholars of Emmanuel College in the University of Cambridge' and registered charity number (1137456).

Suggested wording

We encourage you to take legal advice about the formulation of any Will, and consult a solicitor who can advise you, but suggested wording for the two main types of legacy gift is as follows:

Residuary Bequest: 'I give absolutely and free of all taxes to The Master, Fellows and Scholars of Emmanuel College in the University of Cambridge, registered charity number 1137456 [“all” or the proportion you wish to give] of the residue of my estate ["for general purposes" or "for the purpose of [insert purpose] or such equivalent purpose as the Governing Body of the College may determine"] and I further direct that the receipt of the person appearing to my Trustees to be the Bursar or other proper officer for the time being of the College shall be full discharge to my Trustees who shall not thereafter be concerned as to the application of this gift.'

Pecuniary Bequest: 'I give absolutely and free of all taxes to The Master, Fellows and Scholars of Emmanuel College in the University of Cambridge, registered charity number 1137456 the sum of £.... [insert both figures and words] ["for general purposes" or "for the purpose of [insert purpose] or such equivalent purpose as the Governing Body of the College may determine"] and I further direct that the receipt of the person appearing to my Trustees to be the Bursar or other proper officer for the time being of the College shall be full discharge to my Trustees who shall not thereafter be concerned as to the application of this gift.'
