Your Impact
Since 1993, donations from members and friends have made an incredible difference, enabling us to do much to benefit the Emmanuel community. Thanks to the generosity of donors, we have been able to support students in need with life-enhancing bursaries and grants, build new spaces and fit-for-purpose facilities, as well as refurbish and protect our existing buildings for current and future generations to enjoy.
Donations have also enabled us to develop an exciting programme of aspiration-raising Access and Outreach activities, helping us reach the brightest and best from all backgrounds. They have allowed us to establish studentships for postgraduates and new fellowships, ensuring that excellent, world-class teaching and research continues to take place here.
Miles's story: Lasting impact with academic grants
I wouldn't have been able to carry out the fieldwork for the duration I was able to without support.
Access & Outreach: Expanding opportunity, inspiring futures
On behalf of the young people you have helped to reach their potential, thank you. Emma, Outreach & Widening Participation Coordinator, and Jess, Schools Liaison Officer, pictured centre left and right, reflect on the last year’s activities.
Ashwin's story: Graduate study made possible
If you’d told me as a Fresher that I’d be studying for an MPhil at Cambridge, I would never have believed you. Emma has always felt like home, its warmth, traditions and sense of continuity made me want to stay for a fourth year.
Nicolette's story: The life-changing gift of a legacy
Choosing Cambridge felt obvious; figuring out how to afford it did not. I applied on a leap of faith, unsure how I would fund my studies.
Ariel's story: A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
I received a modest grant to attend an international conference on applied theatre and education. The conference was everything I hoped for.
Sarah's story: Transformative learning in action
For Sarah, a Natural Sciences student, five weeks in Leiden became a defining moment in her academic and professional development. The placement opened Sarah’s eyes to career paths she hadn’t previously considered. College funding played a crucial role.
Soniya's story: Empowering communities through research
Soniya’s PhD research examines how women entrepreneurs in developing markets are transforming their communities through small‑scale business innovation. Thanks to an Acorn Grant, she travelled to Gujarat, India.
Nikita's story: Promising research into prostate cancer made possible
For clinicians, full-time research is a luxury. Research Fellowship of Emmanuel has thus offered me a unique opportunity to focus on the work that I believe can make a real clinical and academic impact.
Toby's story: Antenatal healthcare on the Thai-Myanmar border
I am reading medicine, and last summer I had a rare opportunity to carry out a research project in Thailand when the country suddenly dropped COVID-19 travel restrictions.
Access & Outreach: An expanded team growing opportunities
September 2023 marked the beginning of one of the most energetic years to date for Emmanuel’s Access and Outreach work: thanks to the excellent fundraising done as part of the Emma Enables campaign, we created a two-person team comprising of the new Outreach and Widening Participation Coordinator role and the Schools Liaison Officer.
