Herchel Smith Scholarships
Each year we are able to offer a number of scholarships to Harvard University, thanks to the generosity of the late Dr Herchel Smith
The Scholarships are tenable for one or, under exceptional circumstances, two years. They run from September in the year following their award. The Scholarship grant includes return fares to the USA, tuition expenses, a living allowance, health insurance and funds to enable some travel within the US.
Application is open to all members of Emmanuel, so long as your first degree was completed no more than five years and six months before the date the scholarship is taken up.
Although the Scholarships provide financial support, it does not carry any guarantee of a place on any course at Harvard. The award is therefore made subject to acceptance on your proposed course. Before applying, you should explore the courses available at Harvard. Details of the course you wish to take must be included in your application.
Those applying for a one–year Scholarship usually apply for 'special student' status in the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. It can also be used for one year courses which lead to a Master's degree. It can also be used, with other funds, for 2 year Master’s degree courses. They are not available for those intending to study for a PhD or for post–doctoral research.
