The life-changing gift of a legacy
For years I imagined myself becoming a doctor, then a veterinarian, then a biologist, always searching for the path that aligned with my desire to help others. Everything finally clicked when I discovered humanitarian work. My passion for languages grew out of meaningful encounters with Spanish‑speaking child refugees in my home country of Trinidad and Tobago and that journey eventually led me to apply to Cambridge.
Choosing Cambridge felt obvious; figuring out how to afford it did not. I applied on a leap of faith, unsure how I would fund my studies. When I received the email saying I was being considered for the Lord Northfield Scholarship, it felt like an answered prayer.
Being here has been nothing short of transformative. I’m surrounded by exceptional teachers and an inclusive, supportive community that has taught me so much about kindness, hard work and friendship. Every person I meet inspires me to grow.
The Lord Northfield Scholarship doesn’t just support my education, it expands what students from my region believe is possible. Opportunities like Cambridge, choir tours, rowing, or studying abroad often feel out of reach for people back home. This scholarship allows me to show others that their dreams are not too big, too bold, or too unrealistic. It proves that nothing needs to be written off as impossible. For that, I am deeply grateful.
