The Reverend Jeremy Caddick

Jeremy is an Official Fellow, elected in 1994. He is our Dean and Chaplain, Postgraduate Tutor, and the College Praelector (responsible for the presentation of students for their degrees).

Biography

Jeremy studied Natural Sciences at St John's College, Cambridge and then followed this with a second undergraduate degree in Theology at the University of Oxford. He then studied at King's College, London focussing on Medical Law and Ethics. Before moving to Cambridge, he served as a University Chaplain in medical and veterinary schools in London, and as a Priest–Vicar of Westminster Abbey. Jeremy was ordained in the Diocese of Southwark in 1987, and served his curacy in the parish of St John the Divine, Kennington, where he was involved in community outreach. He has been Dean and Chaplain of Emmanuel since 1994, and campaigns for the recognition of LGBT relationships within the Church, and on green issues.

In addition to his pastoral work across the whole Emmanuel community and his role in the College Chapel, he is Tutor to our postgraduate students. In 2009, he was a Senior Proctor at the University (an Officer and Trustee role, encompassing student advocacy, University policy and scrutiny). Between 2012–2016, he was an elected member of the University Council. 

Teaching

Jeremy is part of the University's Faculty of Biology and the Faculty of Divinity, teaching Medical Ethics.
