Dr Kongming Yan

Kongming is one of our College Research Associates, and is based at the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow.

BIOGRAPHY

Kongming Yan was awarded a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from Southwest Jiaotong University in 2020, where he also completed his undergraduate studies. He has held postdoctoral positions at Tongji University in China and a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship at Kyoto University in Japan before joining the University of Cambridge in 2025.

He is currently an MSCA Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Engineering, working with Professor Gopal Madabhushi in the Geotechnical and Environmental Research Group at the Schofield Centre. His research focuses on centrifuge modelling of slope stability under coupled climate change and seismic loading. His work adopts an interdisciplinary approach, integrating civil and geological engineering with techniques from remote sensing and geophysical investigation to investigate complex geohazard processes.
