Dr Richard Jennings

Richard is one of our Bye–Fellows. He is Director of Studies in Philosophy of Science, as part of the Natural Sciences, PBS and HSPS undergraduate courses.

Biography

After receiving his PhD at Washington University, Missouri, Richard taught for two years in the City University of New York. He then travelled for two years before arriving in Cambridge in 1975. Since then, he has supervised and lectured in the University's Department of History and Philosophy of Science and has continued to teach Philosophy of Science in different departments across the University since then.

Teaching

Richard teaches the Philosophy of Science paper across the colleges for second–year PBS and HSPS students. He also supervises this paper for the Natural Sciences course. He also lectures the Professional Practice and Ethics on the Computer Sciences and on Ethics in/of Physics in the Physics specialty of the Natural Sciences course.

Research

Richard's research focuses on ethical issues in science, particularly professional conduct in science and the uses of science. His research informs science–policy research and studies the ethical issues in new and emerging technologies. He also runs Ethics workshops at the Wellcome Trust's Sanger Institute,
