Emmanuel Society Lawyers' Dinner

You're warmly invited to a special evening hosted by the Emmanuel Society at London's Stationers' Hall. 

This special dinner brings together members who read Law at Emmanuel and members who have since pursued a career in law. 

The Master, Doug Chalmers, will be in attendance and will welcome you to dinner. We are also delighted to be joined by our speaker for the evening, Síofra O'Leary (1995).

Held only once every three years, the Emmanuel Society Lawyers' Dinner offers a special opportunity to reconnect with friends and contemporaries, meet fellow members working in law and renew your connection with the college, all whilst enjoying a delicious three-course meal with wine.

The dress code is lounge-suit or equivalent. Numbers are limited and places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Members are welcome to bring guests, subject to availability.

How to book

The cost is £155 per person, which includes a three courses and wine.

A limited number of subsidised places, at £80 per person, are available to Emmanuel graduates from 2020–2026 who are still studying or undertaking a training contract or pupillage. Places are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

After-dinner speaker

Our speaker for the evening will be Síofra O'Leary (1995).

An Honorary Fellow of Emmanuel, Síofra was President of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), where she served from 2015 to 2024. She is currently a Fellow of the Remarque Institute at New York University and previously worked at the Court of Justice of the European Union.

A graduate of University College Dublin (UCD) and the European University Institute, Síofra has held academic roles at the College of Europe and the Universities of Cambridge, Dublin and Cádiz. She has authored several books and articles on EU and ECHR law and is an Honorary Bencher of the King’s Inn, Lincoln’s Inn and the Inn of Court. In 2024, Síofra received UCD’s Ulysses Medal and she holds Honorary Doctorates from the University of Edinburgh and Trinity College Dublin.

As in previous years, the Emmanuel Society hopes to enable current students at the college reading Law to attend the dinner at no cost to themselves. Members can help make this possible by sponsoring a student place in full or contributing towards a place(s) when booking.
