BIOGRAPHY
Javier is a Herchel-Smith Postdoctoral Fellow in the laboratory of Prof. Gonçalo Bernardes at the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge since May 2024. He was appointed CRA at Emmanuel College in February 2025. His research focuses on developing novel therapeutics based on small molecules that recognize and cleave RNAs linked to disease conditions, with a particular interest in oncology. He obtained his BSc in Chemistry with honors in 2018 and his PhD in Chemical Engineering in 2023 from the University of Zaragoza, Spain, under the supervision of Prof. Jesús Santamaría and Dr. José Luis Hueso. In 2022, he spent part of his PhD in the laboratory of Prof. Christopher J. Chang at the University of California, Berkeley, in the United States of America. His thesis, awarded Best PhD Thesis in Nanomedicine (2024) by CSIC and the Extraordinary Prize (2025) by the University of Zaragoza, explored the use of nanotechnology to regulate intracellular copper levels for cancer therapy.
