BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Elizabeth Cooper is a postdoctoral researcher in the field of paediatric neuro-oncology, currently affiliated with the CRUK Cambridge Institute and the CRUK Children's Brain Tumour Centre of Excellence at the University of Cambridge.
As a neuroimmunologist, Dr. Cooper studies the intricate interactions between the immune system and the central nervous system, focusing on their roles in normal brain development and the formation of childhood brain tumours. She leads a pioneering research program that investigates the unique anatomical connections between the central nervous system borders, the skull bone marrow, the meningeal layers, and the brain and spinal cord.
Dr. Cooper’s work explores how this axis influences immune cell trafficking and immune tolerance within the developing brain, as well as how disruptions in these processes can contribute to tumour development. By unravelling these mechanisms, her research aims to identify effective and appropriate immunotherapies for childhood brain tumours.
