Careers & Networking
Reanne is reading History but wondering about a career in Law. So she went to the careers database to ask some Emmanuel lawyers for advice. Nick arranged a mini pupillage for her at his barrister’s chambers in London.
Reanne comments ‘I really enjoyed my time with Nick at 29 Bedford Row. As a history student, I had struggled to find practical law experience, especially in an area as competitive as the bar. It was brilliant to a have a few days of useful, rewarding experience, which not only can be put down on my CV, but genuinely gave me an insight into the profession. This was all due to the Emma careers database. I cannot stress enough how important a resource this is for anyone at Emma – use it!’
Nick says: ‘The College’s career database is a great way of putting current undergraduates and postgraduates in touch with hundreds of members of the College now working in a whole range of careers. I was very pleased when Reanne got in touch with me, and happy to arrange for her to spend a few days with me in chambers seeing what life as a family law barrister is really like! I was also able to offer her advice on her future career. I hope that more and more students will make use of the database in the future: it’s a very important resource particularly at a time when the graduate employment market remains so competitive.’
The database gives information about over 700 Members who work in over 50 different areas. It can be used to seek and give careers advice, and also for networking.
