The College is sad to announce the death of its Honorary Fellow Professor Sir Eldryd Parry on Sunday 13 November 2022.
Sir Eldryd matriculated at Emmanuel in 1948, read Natural Sciences (for Medicine) and graduated B.Chir in 1955. He trained as a physician in Cardiff, London and Ibadan and spent nearly 23 years in academic medicine in Africa, finally as Professor of Medicine and Dean at Ilorin, Nigeria, and Kumasi, Ghana. In 1988 he founded THET, a charity which helps African medical schools and hospitals to develop the skills of their staff, chiefly through links with their counterparts in Britain. He was the senior editor of the prize-winning Principles of Medicine in Africa (third edition, CUP). He had an honorary DSc (Kumasi), a number of honorary Fellowships and was a founding member of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, Amoud University, Somaliland.
