Engagement Officer (Communications & Stewardships)
Full Time (36 hours 40 minutes)
Salary: £30,098 - £32,031 per annum depending on experience
The College is seeking to appoint an Engagement Officer reporting to and working closely with the Engagement Manager in our expanding Development Office. The Development Office supports the college in its charitable purpose by building and maintaining a supportive, lifelong, two-way relationship with Members (alumni), and engaging the community of members and friends to contribute their time, expertise and philanthropy. Between 2015 and 2022, the Development Office raised £38m in new philanthropic income through the ‘Emma Enables’ campaign. This was the college’s most successful campaign ever and saw a significant uplift in philanthropy across major, regular, and legacy giving. This is a new post as we look to build on this momentum in planning the next campaign.
This position is ideal for a creative, enthusiastic, and self-motivated individual who enjoys storytelling through varied communications activities, building meaningful connections, and contributing to a dynamic and supportive Development team.
Emmanuel College, affectionately known as ‘Emma’, is set in extensive historical, yet peaceful grounds within central Cambridge. Food Service Assistant
£27,755 per annum (inclusive of 4.5% monthly shift allowance)
The Front of House team at Emmanuel College (known as ‘Emma’) is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Food Service Assistant to work within the busy Catering Department. Headed up by the Front of House Manager, the team delivers excellent food service to a variety of customers in a traditional environment. The postholder, alongside other permanent and casual catering staff, will contribute to delivering an efficient, timely and professional service.
The post holder must ensure the highest possible standard of food service and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The successful applicant will have experience in a similar role. They must be able to demonstrate that they are able remain calm and courteous, especially when under pressure, and to work flexibly and effectively as part of a team. As this is a front-of-house post, the post holder is expected to be smart and well-presented. Candidates must have good understanding of relevant Food Hygiene and Health and Safety policies and be willing to learn. Training will be provided.
This is a permanent full-time role (typically 40 hours per week on a shift rota). The rota includes some evening work, alternate weekend working, and two split shifts per week, for which an allowance is paid (included in above salary).

Gate Porter
Full Time (40 hours)
Salary: £31,214 to £34,108 p.a. depending on experience (inclusive of unsociable hours)
Emmanuel College is seeking to appoint a Gate Porter within the busy and diverse team working within the Porters Lodge.
The Porter’s Lodge is often the first point of contact for all uses of the College, and we pride ourselves in being a warm and welcoming environment to all that use the College. The primary role of the Gate Porter is the safety and wellbeing all College members, guests and visitors. The responsibilities include student wellbeing and safety, dealing with general enquiries, distribution of post, fire safety and also the security of the College. We are looking for someone who has excellent customer service and communication skills along with the ability to deal effectively with a wide range of people and complete a variety of tasks in a helpful, calm and flexible manner.
The role of Porter is a varied role and covers a wide variety of duties across the College. You will work as part of a friendly and welcoming team in this front of house role. The Porters’ Lodge is open 24/7 and there is a shift system in operation. Shifts will normally be 8-hours and consists of day, evening or night shifts according to a rota and include working at weekends or on Bank holidays, normally working with at least one other team member. Average working hours will be 40 hours per week.
Previous Porters lodge experience is useful but not essential as training will be provided.
