The College Chapel

The Perfect Setting

A wedding at Emmanuel College will be a once in a lifetime, unforgettable experience.

From the moment that you leave St Andrews Street and enter Front Court with the magnificent Wren Chapel facing you, it will be your day. The staff at the College know that this is a very special occasion and they will go out of their way to make it so.

WEDDINGS AT EMMANUEL

A bride or groom with a close connection with the College, such as a Member of College, can apply for a licence to marry in the Chapel, designed in the mid seventeenth century by Sir Christopher Wren.

Whether you marry in the Chapel or simply hold your reception and wedding breakfast at Emmanuel, the splendour of the surroundings will ensure a memorable day.

Depending on the time of the year, you may have photographs taken under the Chapel Cloisters or in The Paddock next to the duck pond, whilst your guests enjoy a champagne reception in the spacious, quiet splendour and serenity of the gardens. Chapman’s Gardens is an alternative for photographs and a drinks reception, with Hobson’s Conduit, shaded by a weeping willow, as a backdrop.

It is hard to imagine a more impressive venue for a Wedding Breakfast than the Hall, with its elegant moulded plaster ceiling and panelled walls flooded with light from mullioned windows.

In the evening the Upper Hall or Old Library are available for dancing and other entertainment. A cash bar can be set up in both rooms and a selection of light buffets can be served during the course of the evening.

BOOKING CONDITIONS

Booking a Wedding at Emmanuel is easy:

  • We can cater for up to a maximum of 130 guests for the Wedding Breakfast, and we look for a minimum of 100 guests.
  • If you wish to be married in the Chapel this must be agreed at a meeting with the Dean (old and current members should be able to obtain the necessary licence without difficulty). You will then need to discuss arrangements with the Conference and Catering Offices at the College.
  • There is a Venue Charge of £2000+VAT (for Current and Old Members of College the venue charge is £1000+VAT) which covers use of the College rooms and gardens, and includes the use of the College silver cake stand, all linen and cutlery, a room for the use the Bride and Groom on the day and all service charges.
  • To confirm the booking the College requires a non-returnable deposit (£1000 + VAT). A single account will be sent to the given address less the deposit, and this should be settled within 28 days.
  • Your choice of menu and wines should be confirmed at least one month before the event and final numbers of guests 15 days prior (minor adjustments may be made up to 48 hours prior and this number will be used for final invoicing). We reserve the right to move the event to a more suitable room if numbers should drop by more than 20% of the original estimate.
  • Please note that confetti is not allowed and there should be no walking on the lawn in Front Court. There are a number of large ponds in the College grounds and children must be supervised at all times.
  • Guests are asked to leave quietly by 11.30pm so as not to disturb members of College in residence.
  • VAT at the current rate will be added to the final bill.
