Dr David Livesey

David is a Life Fellow, having been elected as an Official Fellow in 1974. He is the Senior Treasurer of the Emmanuel May Ball.

Biography

David studied for his BSc(Eng) in Electrical Engineering at Imperial College London, and for his PhD at Christ's College, Cambridge, on the modelling and control of the UK economy. He was then elected as a Research Fellow at Peterhouse. Across his career at the University of Cambridge, David has been a Research Officer at the Department of Applied Economics, Lecturer on Economics in the Department of Engineering, Secretary General of the Faculties i.e. at that time the University's principal adviser on academic policy. Between 2005–9, David was Secretary–General of the League of European Research Universities. He has been a Fellow of Emmanuel since 1974, and has held positions including: Director of Studies in Economics, Tutor, Acting Senior Tutor (1982–3), Bursar (1983–1991), Vice-Master (2006–11) and Editor of College Magazine (2012–18). He has held positions as a senior advisor to the European Universities Association, a member of Quality Assurance Forum for Universities in Singapore, a Governor of St. Mary's University, Twickenham and of Henley Management College. In 2011 his contributions to higher education were recognised by the University of Derby in the award to him of its honorary DUniv.

Although no longer active in academic teaching or research, David is a Mental Health Act Manager for the CPFT NHS Foundation Trust. He is Vice–chair of the Walsingham Trust, Company Secretary of the Cambridge City Foodbank and previously chair of trustees. He has also been chair and trustee of the Cambridge Citizens Advice Bureau, and a former trustee of Citizens Advice as well as chair and trustee of the Friends of Fulbourn Hospital & the Community.
