Funding

Emmanuel believes that none of our students should be unable to study at Cambridge due to financial concerns. This is a commitment we hold alongside the University and other colleges.

Undergraduates

Our students are either permanently resident in the UK, or resident overseas. The undergraduate costs of studying & living at Cambridge depend on your location of residence. Students with ‘Home fee’ status are charged for their tuition, and will need to estimate their living costs too. Fees are slightly different for those students who are from the EU or other countries overseas. This includes the Channel Islands & the Isle of Man. These are split into tuition fees, your estimated living costs, and College fees.

Tuition fees cover the teaching & supervision from your department. Your living costs are an estimate of expenses and personal costs, including accommodation, food, books & equipment. College fees are for the costs of our provision of pastoral & welfare support, and domestic services. A list of fees for this academic year is on our Admissions pages. You can also consult the University’s information on their website.

Emmanuel also works alongside the University to provide assistance through funds for students in unexpected financial circumstances. There are named scholarships for under-represented groups. The University's 'Cambridge Bursary Scheme' can be used to meet the living costs of studying here.

The College & University are able to provide you with financial assistance for your studies. We can also provide funding for non-academic activities & pursuits. These also include support for study visits & fieldwork.

There is also Government funding available to students with 'Home fee' status. This depends on financial circumstances and are for tuition fees & living costs.

Postgraduates

You will need to obtain funding to cover fees & living expenses to study as a postgraduate at Emmanuel. Estimates for these can be found on the Cambridge Postgraduate Admissions website.

The University offers a Postgraduate Funding Competition, which co–ordinates funding from a variety of sources i.e. the Cambridge Trust, Gates Cambridge, ESRC & AHRC Research Councils & other University Funds.

The College offers studentships & bursaries, which are awarded alongside University awards. All applicants with offers from Emmanuel are considered for these awards, unless you indicate you will not be applying for this funding. We offer awards in May, after the Cambridge University Awards are announced.

The studentships we offer include:

  • One full–cost Derek Brewer PhD Studentship (intended for Home students)
  • Two MPhil Studentships
  • One or more part–cost Benson & Carslaw Scholarships to students from Commonwealth countries (between £5,000 & £15,000/year)

Overseas applicants may be considered for the Derek Brewer PhD Studentship if there are no suitable Home applicants.

We can also assist with costs of conferences, fieldwork & any financial concerns. Applications should be made via your Tutor, and further information for current postgraduates can be found here (password–protected).
