Professor Andrew Christie
BSc (Melb), LLB (Melb), LLM (Lond), PhD
Derek Brewer Visiting Fellow (Michaelmas 2018); Herbert Smith Freehills Visitor, Faculty of Law (2018/19)
My connection with the College extends back to 1989, when I was elected the first Herchel Smith Research Fellow in the Law of Intellectual Property. In addition to my current position as Chair of Intellectual Property at the University of Melbourne, I have been honoured to hold distinguished visitor appointments at Duke University (Fulbright Senior Scholar), the National University of Singapore (Yong Shook Lin Visiting Professor, and Kwa Geok Choo Distinguished Visitor), and the University of Toronto (Centre for Innovation Law and Policy Distinguished Visiting Professor).
In addition to my research and teaching, I am actively engaged in the practice of intellectual property law. I am admitted as a solicitor in Australia and the United Kingdom, and I am a trained arbitrator and mediator. As an active panelist for leading alternative dispute resolution (ADR) centres in Hong Kong, Geneva, Paris, Shenzen and Sydney, I have decided more than 200 domain name and other intellectual property-related disputes.
