Borrowing Books

To borrow books you need a current Library card. Take your Library card and books to the Self-Issue terminal at the front of the Library. To issue books on your Library card follow the instructions placed at the Self-Issue Terminal. If you are unsure how to do this please ask a member of the Library Staff to show you.

Length of borrowing

Most books can be borrowed for 14 days. You will be sent a reminder when they are overdue. Please return or renew books as soon as you receive the reminder. There are fines for overdue books.

Renewals

Book can be renewed if they have not been reserved by another reader. Most books can be renewed at the Self-Issue terminal. Instructions on how to renew books are placed at the Self-issue terminal. If you need any help please ask a member of the Library Staff.

Reservations

Reservations can be made by filling in one of the blue reservation slips found at the Loans desk. Please fill in the details and return the form to a member of staff.

How to Return Books

When you have finished with your library books please put them in the Book Return Bins which are found next to the photocopier near the entrance to the Library.

Short Loan Collection

Heavily used books are put on short loan, they have to be signed out and must be returned by 14.30 the following day. They can be borrowed for the weekend if taken out on Friday after 12.00.

Reference Books

Books with prefixes P = pamphlet, R = reserved collection, (03) = reference only, all JOURNALS AND PERIODICALS and the majority of LAW TEXTBOOKS are for use in the library only.

New Book Suggestions

If you wish to suggest the purchase of an important textbook or reference work for the Library, particularly books recommended for your course of study, please fill in a suggestion form which will be found at the Issue Desk.

Periodicals

Current journals and periodicals are shelved in the staff office area of the library. Back issues are usually kept with their subject area.

Photocopying

There is a photocopier in the entrance hall. A rechargable photocopier card costing 50p can be purchased from a member of staff.

Microfiche & Microfilm Readers

There are two microfiche readers for student use on the first floor lobby, and two microfilm readers in the Rare Books corridor.
