The College Library

The Library has two main classes of collection and associated users: the junior members' library and the historic collections. The junior members' library consists of over 50,000 volumes available for loan to all current undergraduate and postgraduate students and to Fellows, together with reference works. The historic collections comprise over 300 manuscripts; about 18,000 works printed before 1800 including the library of William Sancroft, Master 1662-5 and later Archbishop of Canterbury, one of the very few personal libraries of the seventeenth century to remain intact containing some 6000 volumes across the whole range of scholarly subject; and the Graham Watson collection of colour-plate books, housed in contemporary bookcases. The historic collections also contain the College's archive, which contains documents predating the foundation of the College in 1584 and continue up to the present day.
