EMMANUEL COLLEGE
When Sir Walter Mildmay, for many years Chancellor of the Exchequer to Elizabeth I, founded Emmanuel College on the site of the old Dominican convent in 1584 to train learned and devoted ministers of the Church of England, he would little have imagined that some 400 years later the College would also have a reputation for its conference facilities and excellent cuisine.
The first time visitor to Emmanuel College is struck by the immediate contrast between the hustle, bustle and noise of central Cambridge, and the serene surroundings of the beautiful buildings and gardens. From the splendour of Front Court and the magnificent Wren Chapel, to the peace and tranquillity of the Paddock with its pond and famous Emmanuel ducks, the College is the perfect venue in the centre of Cambridge for a conference, a wedding or just a splendid meal in historic surroundings.
CONFERENCES AND MEETINGS
The number and variety of public rooms within the College makes it possible to offer a range of facilities from small day meetings of as few as six delegates to 150 seated in the Queen’s Building Auditorium. Outside term residential facilities are available in study bedrooms. There is a diversity of style and age as well as size of meeting room, from the modern in the Queen’s Building, to Regency splendour in Camden House to medieval in the Old Library, where the original open timber screening of what was once the Old Chapel, still survives.
Just as important as the location are the amenities, food and service to which the College attaches great importance. Some of the venues may be 17th century, but the available audio visual equipment offers the latest technology.
DINING
The College has justly gained a reputation amongst local businesses and University Departments for its fine cuisine. Whether yours is a corporate event or a family celebration, our menus cater for every taste and style of cuisine, whilst the College’s wine cellar is legendary. Whether your event is a small intimate meal for a special occasion, requires a buffet or is a banquet in our magnificent, panelled hall with its oak benches, you will find the food of the highest quality and the service impeccable.
WEDDINGS
Emmanuel provides a peerless surrounding for weddings. The magnificent Wren Chapel and Front Court are not matched anywhere in Cambridge, and a drinks reception and photographs in either the Paddock by the duck pond in the shade of a splendid Caucasian Wingnut tree, or in Chapman’s Gardens, where Hobson’s Conduit flows peacefully beneath a willow tree will be an occasion long to be remembered.
THE QUEEN'S BUILDING
Voted ‘Building of the Year’ when it was opened, The Queen’s Building houses our impressive, tiered, 150 seat Auditorium. There are three additional rooms which can be used to break out from the plenary session or for serving refreshments.
