Christopher Whitton is Director of Music and a Fellow in Classics. As Director of Music he takes overall responsibility for the musical life of the College.


Mr Richard Latham, Director of Chapel Music

Richard Latham was organ scholar at Emmanuel College, Cambridge (1997-2000) and choral scholar at King’s College (2000-2001). After working in New York as an organist he trained as a singer at the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

His operatic roles include Morales Carmen; Don Alfonso and Guglielmo Così fan tutte; Marcello La Bohème; Eugene Onegin; Father Hänsel und Gretel; Harlekin Ariadne auf Naxos.

Concert performances include Schumann's Szenen aus Goethes Faust with Stephen Cleobury and the Choir of King's College, Cambridge and Fauré Requiem with the Philharmonia Chorus. Richard works regularly with Richard Egarr and the Academy of Ancient Music, most recently in a performance of cantatas by J.S. Bach’s forebears at the Wigmore Hall.


July Verkade, Senior Organ Scholar

July Verkade is the Senior Organ Scholar at Emmanuel College, where she is currently reading music. Before Cambridge, she studied at Westminster School for Sixth form, where she was able to play services at Westminster Abbey. She gained her Associateship of the Royal College of Organists aged 17, and has studied organ with Ann Elise Smoot and William Whitehead. She also plays the piano, saxophone, clarinet and recorder.


George Lacey, Junior Organ Scholar

George Lacey is the Junior Organ Scholar at Emmanuel College, where he is reading Physical Natural Sciences. Before starting at Cambridge, he attended Malvern College in Worcestershire, where he regularly played the organ for school Chapel services. During his gap year he studied under Christopher Allsop at Worcester Cathedral, and is currently preparing to take his ARCO. He also plays the piano, trumpet and sings tenor.
