Law

Law is an intellectually challenging and rewarding subject to study at University. Emmanuel aims to foster in students an informed, engaged and critical perspective on the law. An informed perspective depends on a firm grasp of the various subjects in the curriculum. An engaged perspective demands the skills associated with legal analysis, argument and writing. And a critical perspective calls for a reflective approach that probes beneath the surface of legal rules to interrogate underlying principles and policies.

At Emmanuel we encourage students to read widely in order to gain the most from supervisions and lectures, and in order to develop their interests and views. The College is committed to ensuring that its Library meets the needs of undergraduates and we are fortunate in having a well-stocked and constantly expanding Law collection in the College Library. The student lawyers within College, through the Williams Law Society, organise moots, talks by speakers from a variety of law-related spheres, dinners and other events with firms of solicitors and barristers' chambers. Through such events students have a rounded experience and are the well prepared for a career in the law after University.
